The Flight Review Process

The Flight Review is the final practical step required by Transport Canada to obtain your Advanced Operations Certificate.

• Prerequisite: You must first successfully pass the Transport Canada Small Advanced Operations written exam (80% minimum score) before booking the review.

• Required Documentation: Prior to the review, candidates must provide the Flight Reviewer with:

  • Proof of the successfully completed Advanced Operations exam.

  • Valid government-issued photo identification.

  • The Certificate of Registration for the drone being used (250g to 25kg).

• Practical Assessment: The review is an in-person, practical test where the pilot must demonstrate key proficiencies, including:

  • Completing thorough pre-flight checks and site surveys.

  • Performing controlled takeoffs, landings, and specific maneuvers (e.g., hovering, figure-eights).

  • Demonstrating the ability to execute emergency procedures (e.g., lost link, fly-away scenario).
